Supporting Your Journey Through Pregnancy and Beyond
Learn everything you need to know for a healthy pregnancy, your options for birthing and recovery, and caring for your newborn. Join the online breastfeeding class to learn how and when to feed your baby, and solutions to common challenges.
These free classes, previously known as Compass Childbirth Classes, are open to all pregnant people living in Wellington, Porirua, Hutt Valley and Kāpiti Coast. We encourage you to attend with your partner, support person, or whānau.
The Childbirth Classes are taught in three sessions. The process of birth, medical interventions, and the first 6 weeks with your pēpi. They are aimed at first time parents, people birthing in New Zealand for the first time, or parents having their first pēpi together.
Where: Choose from three in-person locations, or the monthly online course:
- Newtown: Cancer Society 52 Riddiford Street (opposite Wellington Hospital)
- Porirua: Tū Ora Compass Health, Level 3, 1 Walton Leigh Ave (City Fitness Building)
- Paraparaumu: Kapiti Health Centre, 35 Warrimoo St (next to the maternity unit)
- Hutt Valley whānau are welcome to join any in-person or online class
Breastfeeding Class: One online session, held once a month. Learn how and when to feed your baby, and solutions to common challenges. This class is an essential part of the course. It can also be a helpful refresher for people having their second child.
Breastfeeding Drop-In: once baby has arrived you are welcome to come along and get support from a Lactation Consultant, 10-11.30am Thursdays in Johnsonville (during term time). Click here for more details.
The antenatal classes are now delivered by Childbirth Educator & Lactation Consultant Rachel Dudfield and her colleague Dana Gilbert.
Classes are free to attend and funded by Tū Ora Compass Health Primary Health Organisation.
