Pregnancy Resources
Once your pregnancy is confirmed, your first step is choosing a Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) — usually a midwife, but sometimes a GP or obstetrician.
Your LMC:
- Coordinates your care throughout pregnancy
- Supports you during labour and birth
- Provides care until your pēpi is around 4–6 weeks old
You can find a midwife by visiting www.findyourmidwife.co.nz. Or book a private obstetric specialist in Wellington at www.wellingtonobstetrics.co.nz.
If you don’t have a midwife by 9 weeks, see your regular Doctor/ GP to arrange baby scans and maternity blood tests.
If you have not been able to find a midwife, contact the maternity teams at the hospital who will help with your antenatal care and birth: Maternity — Wellington, Hutt and Kapiti.
Immunisations
The Ministry of Health recommends that pregnant individuals receive vaccinations for whooping cough (pertussis), influenza, and COVID-19 to protect yourself and your newborn.
