Baby Feeding Drop In

Breastfeeding is natural but it’s not always easy to get established. Global Health Media have created a series of breastfeeding videos that are available in 32 different languages. These can help with painful feeding, increasing milk supply, and knowing if your baby is getting enough.

There are two New Zealand made apps to support breastfeeding. They both help with explaining what is normal, and Breastfed NZ has information about managing challenges. If you or your support people would like to get a head start on this then please consider downloading one of these free breastfeeding apps: Mama Aroha or BreastfedNZ.

Over 4,500 people give birth in the Wellington Region each year. The only funded breastfeeding support groups running at the moment are in Lower Hutt, and Porirua!

As a Lactation Consultant Rachel Dudfield saw a need for accessible support for Wellington’s new parents.

She started her weekly drop-in sessions to help new parents navigate the challenges of feeding their newborns.

Breastfeeding Drop-in Session Details:

When: 10-11.30am, Thursdays (during term time)

Where: Collective Community Hub, 33 Johnsonville Road, Johnsonville. Parking on site, or next door.

Our baby feeding drop-in sessions are free of charge, thanks to support from Tū Ora Compass Health and Collective Real Estate.

People are welcome to attend for lots of reasons. Perhaps you are pregnant and want to learn about breastfeeding. Maybe you are learning to feed your baby and not enjoying it. Maybe it hurts, or you are trying to increase your milk supply.

If your baby is around 6 months old you might be starting to offer solid food and want to know how to do this safely. Maybe you are returning to work and want to know how feeding your baby might look.

The support is offered in a group setting. Partners are welcome to attend. You can also access support from the below community support groups, by booking an online session with Plunketline, or by paying to hire a private Lactation Consultant. Private baby feeding support is available to Māori and Pasifika. Ask your LMC or Rachel for more details.
